Getting the most out of your batteries in Winter

Take of your Rungu® Dualie™ batteries in winter

Riding Rungu Dualie in winter snow is incredibly fun. Maximize the fun by treating your Rungu Dualie batteries correctly this winter.  Rungu Dualie uses Li-ion batteries and all Li-ion batteries are sensitive to low temperatures.  Batteries operating at 0⁰ Fahrenheit (-20⁰ C) can lose as much as 20% of their capacity because of freezing temperatures. Worse, charging your batteries at temperatures below freezing can even damage the batteries permanently.  This blog discusses three rules for taking care of your batteries in winter.

The Three Rules

  1. ALWAYS charge your batteries above freezing.  If you don’t have a heated garage, remove the batteries from your Rungu Dualie and charge them indoors before riding.  Charging a battery below freezing causes damage inside the battery cells. The damabe is NOT REPARABLE and it causes PERMANENT damage to the battery that reduces your range and power output.
  2. Store batteries at room temperature before riding in winter.  Li-ion batteries lose capacity at temperatures below freezing.  Storing a Rungu Dualie battery at 0⁰ Fahrenheit (-20⁰ C) results in a capacity loss that decreases your range by at least 17%.  When you store your battery indoors at room temperature and then plug it in right before riding, your range only drops by 10%.
  3. Don’t store your batteries plugged into the charger.  Leaving your batteries plugged in and charged to 100% for periods of more than a few days reduces the life of your battery.  If you don’t plan to use your Rungu for more than a couple of weeks, remove the batteries and store them discharged at room temperature.  Charge them up right before you start riding again.
