How do I haul Rungu with my car or truck?

Hauling Rungu: Bigger than a bicycle smaller than a Quad ATV

Hauling Rungu presents challenges. Rungu is longer, wider and heavier than a standard bicycle or e-bike, so how do I load it up on my rig?  Rungu’s projected length is almost 7’ (213 cm) and width (at the handlebars) is almost 33” (83 cm).  The weight ranges from 54 lbs.(32 kg) for the non-electric Kilimanjaro to over 120 lbs. (54 kg) for the Rubicon Trail Edition model.  Mounting them on the back of a car, truck or RV presents challenges.

Four options for hauling Rungu with a car or light truck

Cars and light trucks have four options for hauling Rungu; three out of four require trailer hitch mounts.

The Rungu Trailer Hitch Rack for hauling Rungu

We now offer the Rungu Dualie Hitch Rack v2.0 for hauling Rungu. The Rungu team worked with 1Up USA to produce a second generation hitch rack that’s even easier-to-use and lighter than the original 1Up USA design. It has enough capacity to carry the heaviest Rungu version and offers great road clearance too. Like a motorcycle rack (see below) you use tie-downs to keep the bike in place once loaded. The rack is really two pieces – the track/carrier and the front wheel mount. You can fold the carrier up and out of the way when it’s not in use.  Road clearance, adaptability and ease-of-use are the advantages of the Rungu Trailer Hitch Rack.

Combo Deer Cart – Luggage racks for hauling Rungu

If you want to spend less and you’re hauling Rungu out to go hunting, this second option may suit you better – the luggage rack.  For transporting a single unit, one our customers found this Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier and Game Cart to work very well both as a bike carrier and a deer cart.  Note that the customer added a hitch adapter and used a tow bar to haul the cart with the deer. Cost and practicality are the advantages of this approach.

Motorcycle racks

Motorcycle racks are designed to carry more weight, width and length and can easily accommodate two Rungu Electric Juggernaut units.  A Motorcycle Carrier like this one requires modification and may require a hitch riser for road/bump clearance.  Modify the rack with the addition of aluminum or steel beams to rest one front wheel (the other is in the track) when tying down each Rungu.  Dual unit capacity is the advantage of a motorcycle rack.

Trailers for hauling Rungu

We have customers who have modified trailers to haul two or more units.  You can source trailers online or from RV and power sport dealerships. Trailer modifications include tie-down spots and places to secure wheels in place.  The images below show one such modified trailer. Capacity and ease of use are the advantages of hauling Rungu on a trailer.

Pick ups and RVs

Trucks and RVs have the same options as cars with the addition of storage inside the vehicle.  If you own a pickup truck, Rungu fits well in the bed of the truck.  Short beds need the tailgate down for transport, and Rungu often fits perfectly in long bed trucks.  Rungu models all have quick-release wheels, which are very easy to remove and replace. Removing the wheels shortens the overall length of the Rungu to fit better inside a truck or RV.  Keeping the front forks on the floor of your vehicle also provides better stability when you tie the Rungu down. If you have a pickup or an RV with a loading ramp, this is by far the least cost approach to hauling Rungu.
