About Rungu

Rungu history and background. Rungu is a brand under Standard Bearer Machines, LLC – A business based in San Clemente, California, USA.

Overcoming the drawbacks of e-bikes and Quads

Standard Bearer Machines, LLC developed the Rungu Dualie double-wheel e-bike as a way to conquer soft sand. Formerly the domain of Quad ATV and Motorcycle riders, fat-tire bicyclists began approaching sand after demonstrating capability in snow.  E-bike technology added propulsive force to overcome the rolling resistance of sand. But there's a problem. Fat-tire e-bikes can follow a straight line on soft sand but washout and crash as soon as riders try to turn and change direction. Those riders carrying gear find it’s safer to push a standard fat-tire e-bike than ride it through soft sand.

It turns out sand is a proxy for mud, forest floor, snow, rocks and even dirt road. Washouts are common on all these road surfaces.

Rungu solved the washout problem with its patented two-front-wheel design – when turning, one fat-tire wheel always stays on the inside of the turning radius to “dig-in” instead of washing out.  Advanced battery technology and high-power e-bike motors add rear-wheel torque to overcome the significant rolling resistance in softer terrain (snow/mud/sand).  In this way, Rungu Dualie makes it easy to ride with your gear where you'll be walking a conventional single-front-wheel e-bike.

What about asphalt? With the dual front wheels close together, riders find it  easy to bank a Rungu Dualie without into a turn as with a motorcycle.  Turning a corner at speed on a Rungu avoids "high-side" crashes common to Quad ATV riders cornering on the asphalt.

The true e-ATV

In 2022, Rungu Dualie XR Rubicon Trail won "E-ATV of the Year" from the Texas Motor Press Association.

Rungu Dualie covers the same terrain and distance as an e-Quad or e-UTV at 1/6th the weight. Going off-road uses more power than going on-road, but customers report more than 30 miles per charge using both pedal and motor power.   To achieve 30 miles of range, electric versions of the same Quads and UTVs would have to add at least 250 lbs. of the latest Lithium Ion battery technology.  That’s a single-person vehicle weighing a minimum 650 lbs. but only getting a range of 30 miles per charge.  Compared to less than 110 lbs. for a Rungu Dualie, it’s hard to argue in favor of an e-Quad or e-UTV.

Commitment to quality

Standard Bearer Machines, LLC engineers, designs and assembles Rungu Dualie products in California to standards that exceed UL specifications.  The team employs rigorous quality control to deliver the best e-bike/e-ATV on the market. In assembly, technicians use alignment fixtures to ensure the stance and suspension of each Rungu Dualie and automated battery testing to make sure capacity and discharge requirements.  Each Rungu must pass a 40-step final inspection and test ride by a quality technician before shipment to a customer or dealer.

The commitment to quality backs our 2-year warranty and “Goes Where Others Can’t” Performance Guarantee. Rungu products are covered for any manufacturing defect for two years from the date of delivery.   Many customers buy Rungu before ever trying one.  We’re so sure that Rungu will work better than an e-bike, we’ll buy it back your new Rungu® Dualie™ e-bike doesn’t go where other e-bikes can’t go.
